I was born December 26, 1961 in Columbus Ohio, but I consider my home to be Columbia, Maryland. My family moved there when I was 7. Graduated from Wilde Lake High School in 1979 and went on a football scholarship to Oklahoma State University under Jimmy Johnson and Dave Waanstedt. I also played baseball for Gary Ward and proud to say we went to the College World Series two years in a row. I feel honored that I was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in the first year of its existence.
After my junior year I signed with the Baltimore Orioles and played parts of five years in the major leagues. After two years in Japan and one in Mexico I retired from baseball, came back to Oklahoma and began a new career in radio. I cut my teeth at WWLS learning from the great Al Eschbach and it’s been a wild ride!
I’ve done national radio with ESPN and was the color voice for the Arizona Diamondbacks television broadcast for three years (2001 – 2003). I was actually able to call the World Series between the D-backs and the Yankees and even got a World Series ring. It was an unbelievable experience, but I’m happy to be back in Oklahoma full time.
Many of you have heard my wife, Julie, on the air with me and hear stories about children and dogs. My whole life revolves around my family, so I sure hope you enjoy hearing about the latest episodes in the Traber household.

Leach plans to keep the media guessing until the last minute on who will be starting against the Cornhuskers.
“I’ve been criticized for not doing what ‘big-time’ programs do so I’ve decided to accommodate the wishes of the media,” Leach said. “And ‘big-time’ programs like to have game-time decisions so we’ve got us a game-time decision on our hands, and I think that’ll be not just ‘big-time’ for everyone but exciting for everyone. So there’s ‘big-time’ for you, how do you like that?”
After that, Leach was asked if the quarterback decision will be a game-time decision, a game-time announcement or whether the media should just assume it to be a game-time decision.
“Well, all of the above,” Leach said. “Not to do anything to diminish the excitement and anticipation of a game-time decision because I think that would screw up the whole thing and then we’d be less ‘big-time’ around here and that would certainly be disturbing to everybody.

What are the chances of Notre Dame and OU playing each other in a bowl game?
A ouple of weeks ago a fellow called in to tell you how the name “Nazi” came about. He was essentially correct, however, he failed to mention that the “Nationale” in “Nationale Socialistische Democratisch Arbeiter Partei” is promounced “Not z on al” in German, rather than “Nash on al” as it is pronounced in English. Therefore, it was shortened to “Not Z” or “Nazi” as we know it. I am a retired History teacher at Redlands Community College in El Reno and therefore, taught students all about the “Nazis” from Second World War fame.
Thanks Jim, keep up the fine work.
eat a turd you pussy
Would like to hear you talk about whether Gundy is the right coach from here on out. You remodel a stadium for the purpose of trying to win a big 12 title & perhaps a national championship. In order to do that OSU has to beat OU & Texas…or at the least gain a split in those two games. Through 5 yrs Gundy is now 0-10 in these games. How much longer do you give him to try and win one of these games? I realize you can’t be on top every year… and you are going to have some good and bad seasons. But if 5 years from now his record against Texas/OU is 0-20….aren’t you just being content with mediocre? As always, I enjoy your comments and respect your views. Thanks, Steve
Jim,
5 seasons in and Gundy is 0 – 10 against Texas and OU. The athletic facilities have been upgraded dramatically. According to Mike Holder and Boone Pickens this is all in an effort to win Big 12 championships and qualify for BCS bowl games. It is apparent in order to do this that the road to those two goals goes through both Texas and OU in most seasons. Yet in a season when OU is 6 – 5 they (OSU) get shut out and lose by 27. I realize that Texas has a good team this year. But how much worse does OU have to be before a Gundy coached OSU team can beat them? I realize that OSU had injury issues going into the OU game. But OU could certainly claim the same thing, including the loss of a heisman trophy winner.
How long before OSU looks at the “body of work” of Gundy and decides that he has taken the football program as far as he can and that a change needs to be made in order for further progress to occur?
